#BEYOND HORIZONS BY PARESH MAITY An artist's work, seen through the retrospective lens presents a rich and variegated tapestry of expression. Observed over a distance of time and space, an overview of different phases of the artist's life and work brings to the fore consistent trajectories of thought, inspirations and choices that fall into discernible and ever strengthening patterns. Along his artistic journey, that has been physical, aesthetic and spiritual, Paresh Maity has created streams of interconnected understanding between the various mediums or tools he chose to express with. The shifting material and surface simply act as an interface for conceptual underpinnings that were continually developing and becoming part of his projected narratives; if there is much layered beauty in the visuality of his work, there is equally layered emotional and intellectual content underlying the surface of the work. The exhibition follows several cycles of Paresh Maity's artistic evolution, spanning a period of 40 years and selectively showcasing the many elaborations within his visual language. His journey through mediums has been one of spontaneity, and experimentation, and sheer commitment to being an artist. Right from the start of his career, he set the parameters and pace for his own practice, deliberately taking the slow path and never forcing what didn't come naturally. The vastness of his visual experience has reflected in large bodies of paintings, drawings, installations, photographs, mixed media work, sculptures and even film. His is a repertoire that envelopes the minimal as well as the lushly adorned, the miniature as well as the monumental.
