Rm. Palaniappan, born 1957, is an alumnus of the Govt. College of Arts Crafts, Chennai. He studied advanced Lithography in Tamarind Institute, USA during 1991 and was the Artist in Residency at the Oxford University in 1996.
He is a recipient of several awards, honours and residencies including the Fulbright Grant, Charles Wallace India Trust grant, International Visitorship programme of USIS and Senior Fellowship, Govt of India. He was invited to visit France & Germany by the Cultural wing of those countries and United states by the Department of External Affairs and Education Australia by the invitation of Ministry of External Affairs, Government of Australia.
He has visited several museums and galleries in USA, UK, France, Germany, Australia, Sweden and South Korea. The awards that reached him were: National Award, International Prints Biennales of Bhopal and Taiwan. He was invited by several international universities and art institutions to conduct workshops in print-making including Art Academy of Cincinnati, University of New Mexico, Indiana State University, Bloomington Kansas State University, Royal College of Arts, London and M.S. University, Baroda.
He has participated in numerous international prints exhibitions and important national level curated exhibitions by invitation; held 14 one man shows around the country and in Rotterdam- Holland. Exhibition curation: Major Trends in Indian Art, 1997, International Commissioner, Bharat Bhavan Prints Biennale, 1995.
His works are in prestigious collections including National Gallery of Modern Art and Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi; British Museum & Victoria Albert Museum- London; Oxford University, Oxford; Cincinnati Art Museum, Tamarind Institute, and Library of Congress, Washington-USA; Taipei Art Museum, Taiwan; Boras Museum, Sweden.
He lives and works in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
