Vidya Kamat

born in Mumbai, India has a Ph.D. from University of Mumbai for her Thesis titled -“Myths and Symbols in Pictorial Expressions as Seen from Sanskrit and allied literature”; B.F.A. (Fine arts) University of Bombay, 1993; Post Graduate Diploma in Comparative Mythology1992 and Diploma in Sanskrit, 1995. Solo shows include Birth.Mark, Gallery Sumukha, Bangalore, 2007; Tales from the Edge, The Guild Gallery, NY, USA, 2007;Rewrite, The Guild Gallery, Mumbai, 2005; The Catalogue, The Guild Gallery, Mumbai, 2003.She has participated in group shows, some of which are Art Santa Fe 08, USA, represented by Gallery Sumukha, Bangalore, 2008; Group show of Indian Contemporary Artists, Gallery Sumukha, Chennai, 2007; New Colours of Sumukha, Gallery Sumukha Bangalore, 2005; “Change of Address’, The Guild Gallery, Mumbai, 2005; ‘Tribute to Picasso’, The Guild Gallery, Mumbai, 2002; ‘Anonymously Yours’ Lakeeren Art Gallery, in collaboration with British Council of India, 2000. Awards received are National Cultural Fellowship by Majlis-India, funded by HIVOS Netherlands, 2002; Fellowship of Goa College of Art, Goa, India, 1983-84 and Best Student award at annual Art Exhibition, 1983.In 2004, she presented “Tolerating Intolerance”, a public art intervention project as part of the bi-centenary celebration of Asiatic Society of Bombay. She lives and works in Mumbai.
