Sumana Chowdary

Sumana Chowdhury was born in Shillong in 1969. She received her BFA and MFA in painting from Kala Bhavan, Visva Bharati, Santiniketan, 1991-1993. She was artist in residence at Kent Institute of Art and Design, Canterbury, England, 1996-1997. Sumana spent a year with the HRD National Scholarship under the course Leader of Painting at Central St. Martin College of Fine Arts, London, 1996-1997. She was visiting faculty,Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Kolkata,1994-1995 and also at Dept. of Painting, College of Architecture, Bangalore University, Bangalore., India.She has participated in numerous Group Exhibitions throughout India and at Sunshine Gallery, London, UK, 1997. Sumana has had a number of solo shows at Birla Academy of Art & Culture, Kolkata, 1994 and 1999; Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, Bangalore, 1996; The Herbert Read Art Gallery, KIAD, Canterbury, England, 1997; Time & Space Art Gallery, Bangalore, 1999; ABC Art Gallery, Varanasi, 1999. She participated in the Gesso Painting Workshop, KIAD, Kent, England 1997. This promising young artist has her works in many prestigious private and corporate collections in India and abroad. She lives and works in Bangalore.
