Santhana Krishnan

Santhana was born in 1977. He obtained his BFA from Govt. College of Arts & Crafts, Chennai (1993-98) and MFA from Madras University, Govt. College of Arts & Crafts, Chennai (1998-2000). He has participated in many group shows, some of which are ‘Dilli Haat’in New Delhi, 2002; 21st International Mini Print Exhibition in Spain, 2001; 19th International Mini Prints Exhibition in Barcelona, Spain, 1999, among many others in different parts of India, in addition to a number of solo shows in Chennai.Santhana Krishnan was awarded in 2000, the Tamilnadu Ovia Nunkalai Kuzhu and the Lalit Kala Academy awards and he received the Appreciation Award – Directorate of Art & Culture in 1997. His works are in various private collections in India and abroad.This young artist paints the traditional doorways of his native Tamilnadu. The works are done with oils on canvas and depict the fast fading traditional way of life. His dexterity with creating the atmosphere of a warm and friendly household, the canvas though unpeopled, still conveys a sense of welcome and hospitality, so integral to India’s warm weathered south states. Krishnan lives and works in Chennai, India.
