Riyas Komu

Born in Kerala in 1971, studied for his BFA and MFA at the Sir JJ School of Art, Mumbai. His solo shows include Sarasu: Photography, Guild Art Gallery, Mumbai, 2003; Unconditional, Paintings & Sculptures at Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai, 2002. He has participated in many group shows such as Crossing Generations: Diverg,e 2003; and Ideas and Images, NGMA, Mumbai; Highlights, Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai; 2D/3D, Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre, Hong Kong; Harmony, Nehru Centre, Mumbai among others. In 2002, he participated in Ways of Resisting, organized by SAHMAT, New Delhi; Word & Images, curated by the Guild, at NGMA, Mumbai; Creative Space, with Sakshi Gallery at the Habitat Centre, New Delhi; Cross Currents, Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai; Aar Paar, 2nd Poster exhibition (India & Pakistan); Asian Art Festival, Singapore; Trans Figuration, Art Inc, New Delhi. In 2001,his participations included Exile Longings,Lakeeren Gallery, Mumbai; Memos of the New Millennium-Artists from the Moulting World, Birla Academy of Art & Culture, Mumbai. Komu also shows installations such as Believe EMS Planted Coconut Tree in Kerala (Sir JJ School of Art, Mumbai, 1999). Riyas Komu lives and works in Kerala and Mumbai, India.
