Raghavendra Rao

He was born in February 1968. He received his education in art from Ken School of Art, Bangalore, with a Diploma in Drawing and Painting, 1985 -1990. He has shown in numerous solo and group shows between 1994 and 2006. He is the recipient of the 199 –1995 Inlaks Fine Art Award and 1990–1991 Fellowship for Painting at Kanoria Centre For Arts, Ahmedabad. Between 2001 and 2003, Rao made short films titled Maze and Reminiscing Aarau , based on his time spent in Switzerland, incorporating footage from India as well. Scholarships & Residencies include, 1997 :Scholarship to work at Arbietsgruppe Gasteatelier Krone, Aarau, Switzerland; 2005-‘Ten Years, Ten Artists’ – Residency Gasteatelier Krone, Aarau, Switzerland and 1999 'Paper Trails', paper making workshop at Vishtar, Bangalore.Since 2000, Raghavendra Rao is a full time faculty member at Srishti School of Art Design & Technology, Bangalore, teaching art and design to students of Fine Art, Graphic Design & Foundation Studies, having taught there as Visiting Faculty member from October 1997 – May 1999. Rao participated in the National Level art workshop for young artists at Auroville, Pondicherry, 1989 and at CMC, Delhi, 1992. He was facilitator in workshops for students of Ken School of Art, Bangalore, 1991 and ’92, as well as in a creative workshop for slum children in Mysore, 1989. He lives and works in Bangalore.
