Jayasri Burman

Born in Kolkata in 1960, Jayasri Burman obtained her degrees from Kala Bhavan, Santineketan (1977-79), College of Visual Art, Kolkata (1979-80) and had guidance under Monseuir Ceizerzi, France. She showed her works in solo exhibitions at Chitrakoot Gallery, Kolkata (1985, 90, 92,96); Pundole Gallery, Mumbai (1989,92) and Gallerie Ganesha, New Delhi (1997,99) among others. She has participated in a three person exhibition at Paris where she worked in the Graphic Art Workshop skippered by Paul Lingren (1984) and took part in the Graphic Arts Workshop with Prof. Krishna Reddy at the Lalit Kala Akademi, Kolkata (1985). She also took part in the Bharat Bhavan Biennial, Bhopal (1986); International Triennale Intergraphic, Germany (1987); “A Tribute to Vincent Van Gogh” , Vadhera Art Gallery, New Delhi (1991) among many others. Jayasri has received the National Award (1985), Certificate of Merit, All India Youth Art Exhibition (1987). Burman has also participated in many art camps, the most recent being at the Hotel Amer, Jaipur (2002), where her paintings are also in their collection. Her works are in the collections of the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi; Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi and several private collections in India and abroad. Jayasri Burman lives and works in New Delhi, India.
