Baiju Parthan

born in Kerala, India in 1956 has a Bachelors Degree in Painting B.F.A; Bachelors Degree in Botany - B.Sc.; Postgraduate Diploma in Comparative Mythology and a Master of Arts in Philosophy. He currently lives and works in Mumbai, India. He has participated in solo and group shows such as “Contemporary Miniatures”, CIMA Gallery, Kolkata (1994); Autumn Exhibition, A.I.F.A.C.S, New Delhi (1995); “Divergences”, an audio visual presentation of the concerns in the work of two painters, with artist Lalitha Lajmi, N.C.P.A, Mumbai (1995); Dua Show, Sarina Tang Gallery, New York (1995);”Four Visions”, The Gallery, Hong Kong (1996);”Chamatkara”, Indian Contemporary Art, Whiteley’s Gallery, London (1996 “Cryptograms”, group show of artists working with cyphers and symbols,Lakeeren Art Gallery, Mumbai,1998. Parthan is the recipient of numerous awards and is among the nominees for artist of the year 2000 award by Sotheby’s of London; Residency at Seven Degrees Gallery, Laguna, California. USA - August-September 2001, arranged by Saffronart and Apparao galleries. He has been External examiner / jury for Masters degree in Design IDC , IIT, Powai, 2003-06. He has given many public lectures. Parthan works with various media, incorporating his knowledge of mythology and philosophy with modern techniques and computer generated symbols. His other activities include being a member of the Poetry Circle, Mumbai. He also contributes articles on science and philosophy to various publications.
