Arpana Caur

Arpana Caur was born in Delhi and is a self taught artist. Her major group and solo shows include the Algiers Biennale (1987), the Glenbarra Art Museum Exhibition (1987), exhibitions at the Lalit Kala Akademi (1979 & 1993), NGMA, Delhi (1986) and the Saffronart Online Exhibition (2003). Her works are in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Singapore Museum of Modern Art; Kunst Museum, Dusseldorf and Glenbarra Museum, Japan. Caur’s paintings carry a message of liberation from a restrictive role for women in society. Many of her works feature the act of cutting and tailoring, symbolising the women constructing their own destinies as they cut and sew. Arpana Caur lives and works in New Delhi.
