Sakti Burman, born in 1935, Kolkata.
He completed his Art Education at Government College of Art and Crafts, Kolkata and at the École Nationale des Beaux Arts Paris.
His early experiences in France and exposure to the Renaissance frescoes of Italy strongly influenced his style. He is known for delicate marbelling-like effect on his canvases which was discovered accidentally. He brought the same effect to his prints.
Settling in Paris during the mid-1950s, he had his first solo show there in 1958. However, he retained his links with India, regularly visiting and exhibiting in the country.
A fine lithographer, he has published several portfolios of lithographs and has illustrated a number of books, one being the collection of Mallarme poems.
Sakti Burman’s creations have been exhibited around the world, including in Europe at most prestigious galleries. His works are part of several Indian and international collections and has received the highest French awards for his contributions to art.
He lives and works in Paris, France.
